What an Adapter for Satellite Internet Laptop Services Can Have

Anyone who uses satellite Internet laptop will need to get proper adapters for their laptops. An adapter will read the signals that come with a satellite Internet service and will link the computer up with the fastest possible speeds. This is very advantageous and can be even better thanks to the many things that come out of an adapter.

A USB Interface

Many of today’s top satellite Internet laptop adapters use USB plugs. This is used in a simple USB port. This should not be an issue to plug into a computer so it can be used well.

Supports for Different Systems

Many adapters can also work with a large variety of operating systems. There will be no need to get any software loaded up to get satellite Internet access in most cases, thus making an adapter a little easier to manage. These include systems like:

• Windows Vista, XP and 7
• Mac OS X 10.5 and greater
• Linux and some other open source operating systems

GPS Support May Work

Some other laptop adapters may have GPS support. This may work for those who are on the go and can easily update a person’s location at varying times. However, it can cost extra to use this support. The download and upload speeds may also slow down.

Small in Size

The final thing is that an adapter can be very small. It can be less than three ounces in weight. It should not add any noticeable weight to the laptop.

People who get satellite internet laptop services can take advantage of these things when getting a laptop ready for connections. This will make it easier for anyone to do more online without dealing with too much equipment to lug around.

How PC Monitor Reviews are Often Managed

There are several things in PC monitor reviews that can be read. These are points that relate to how well a monitor can work.

The Design Features

The design of a monitor should be seen carefully. This relates to things like:

How big the screen is
How flat it is
The ports that come on the monitor and where they are
Any speakers around the physical build of the monitor
The ability to pivot and adjust the monitor on an easel
Issues involving the glare that might come off of the monitor if applicable

Performance Points

The performance of the monitor will be reviewed carefully. This will be reviewed through tests with things like:

High-definition movies
High-resolution photo files
Gaming applications
Multiple resolution levels

The key is to see how well the colors work and how things move on the monitor. The contrast, brightness and overall appearance will be key points to see as well. The goal is to make sure that the performance of the monitor is as great as it possibly can be, thus making this critical for a review.

Specifics Can Be Listed

People can also find specifics on a monitor in PC monitors reviews. These specifics can include such points as:

The recommended resolution level
The contrast ratio
The number of connections it can handle
The lighting function
Controls on the monitor
The response rate

These are great points to find for PC monitor reviews. These features must be reviewed so anyone can have a better chance with getting something to work out right no matter what a person wants out of a quality monitor.

UK film banned for blasphemy gets rating 23 years on

(Reuters) – “Visions of Ecstasy,” the only film to be banned in the UK on grounds of blasphemy, has been given an 18 rating more than 20 years after it was first submitted for classification.

The 19-minute short film directed by Nigel Wingrove features a sequence in which a figure representing St. Teresa of Avila “interacts sexually” with a figure representing the crucified Christ, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) said in a statement Tuesday.

A spokeswoman added that while only one film had been banned for blasphemy, numerous had been cut to remove the most offensive scenes.

Over the BBFC’s 99-year history, it has refused to classify nearly 1,000 works, although many of those dated to its early years and it now typically rejects only one or two works annually.

The decision to ban Visions of Ecstasy, which was submitted for video classification only in 1989, was made on the grounds that the film could constitute an offence under the common law test of blasphemous libel.

The ruling to refuse a classification, which became a cause celebre of the free speech movement, was subsequently upheld by the Video Appeals Committee.

In 2008, section 79 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act abolished the common law offences of blasphemy and blasphemous libel, meaning that the film no longer breaches UK law, according to the BBFC.

The film classification body added: “The Board recognizes that the content of the film may be deeply offensive to some viewers.”

An 18 rating means no one younger than 18 can see the film in a cinema or rent or buy it on video. It is not known if or when Visions of Ecstasy will be on sale.

What happens when you walk away from your home?

(Reuters) – It was just last summer that Charlotte Perkins made the hardest decision of her life as she and her husband Jim were caught in the vise of the housing bust.

Wanting to downsize their lives as they headed toward retirement, they bought a new house in Mesa, Arizona, before they sold the old one, also in Mesa. Their previous home had been appraised at nearly $400,000 at the height of the market, but as the housing crisis ravaged Arizona, they were told they’d be lucky to get $200,000 for it.

They were carrying a loan of $260,000 on their original home alone, meaning they were well ‘underwater,’ owing much more than it was worth. Combined with the mortgage on the new house, their housing payments had become an “anchor around our necks,” she says, threatening to gobble up all their retirement savings and leave them with nothing.

The couple made a difficult call: They would do a ‘strategic default,’ and simply stop paying the old mortgage. “We really had to wrestle with it,” said Perkins, 60. “We had worked all of our lives to build good strong credit, and we’re proud people. But it came down to, ‘Can we keep doing this?’ We had to say ‘No.’”

As the housing bust drags on, many homeowners are thinking like Perkins. Almost 11 million homes are now underwater, says financial information provider CoreLogic. Around 3.5 million homeowners are behind in their payments and another 1.5 million homes are already in the foreclosure process, according to online marketplace RealtyTrac.

As banks start to work through their backlog of distressed properties, the New York Federal Reserve estimates that 3.6 million foreclosures will take place during the next couple of years.

So, the question is: Does it make sense to keep paying a massive mortgage, knowing that it might be decades before a home regains its prior value? Or is that akin to – as columnist James Surowiecki recently wrote in the New Yorker – “setting a pile of money on fire every month”?

“I constantly get the saddest e-mails from people saying, ‘I’ve exhausted all my life savings, my retirement is gone, and now I have to default,’” said Jon Maddux, CEO of YouWalkAway.com,

a foreclosure agency that helps clients with strategic default (and charges a fee for it). “But if they had seen the writing on the wall a couple of years earlier, stopped paying the mortgage and stayed in the home throughout the whole process, they would be in a much better financial position.”

MORAL QUANDARY

There’s a moral component to that decision, of course. People naturally feel embarrassed about breaking a contract and not paying their bills; no one wants to be branded a deadbeat. But remember that companies default on their obligations when it makes financial sense for them to do so, via the bankruptcy process. Even the Mortgage Bankers Association itself, in a flourish of irony, arranged for a short sale of its Washington headquarters.

It’s not personal; it’s business. So think of strategic default as a business decision, and do a cold-eyed cost-benefit analysis of whether it makes sense for you, advises Carl Archer, an attorney with Maselli Warren in Princeton, New Jersey.

“People think it reflects on their integrity, and say ‘I wasn’t raised this way,’” said Archer. “But the more businesslike attitude is to say that there’s a contract, there are penalties for violating that contract, and sometimes it just makes financial sense to break it.”

The penalties largely revolve around your credit record, which admittedly gets blown up in the near-term. For a few years you can likely forget about qualifying for a mortgage or a car loan. When lenders are ready to take a chance on you again, you’ll have to pay for the privilege, with stiff interest rates due to your default history.

WHAT HAPPENS TO SCORES

Charlotte Perkins watched her credit score go from a pristine 800 to 685, dropping every time she missed a payment. Credit-scoring firm FICO estimates that someone with a 680 score would see that number sink between 85-100 points after a strategic default, and someone with 780 could crater 140-160 points.

Not desirable, of course, but not the end of the world either. For Perkins, for instance, she already had a loan on her Ford Escape, and the mortgage on her new house, before she even started the default process. She hasn’t seen any changes on her credit cards since, in terms of limits or interest rates.

Now that the previous home was auctioned off in December, she can start slowly rebuilding her credit, a process that should take about seven years.

Strategic default isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, of course. If everyone did it, the housing market – and the banks – would be in much worse shape than they already are.

The following are some of the issues to keep in mind:

1. Look to it as a last resort, not a first option. Your financial troubles could be alleviated with a simple refinancing, especially since 30-year mortgage rates are near record lows of below 4 percent. If the banks are hesitant to rework your loan, look into the number of government programs designed to keep you in your home, which can be researched at MakingHomeAffordable.gov.

2. Location, location, location. Each state has its own rules and regulations regarding foreclosures, which affect both the length of the process and what you could be liable for in the end. In so-called ‘non-recourse’ states like Arizona, California and Texas, a lender cannot come after you for any deficiency (for instance, if your mortgage was $300,000 and they’re only able to sell the property for $200,000). In other states they can pursue the difference, in theory – which is why some homeowners opt to file for bankruptcy, to free themselves from those potential obligations as well.

3. Use the interim to save like a demon. If you’re in a state like New York or Florida, which require a judicial review of every foreclosure, it might be a couple of years before you actually have to pack up. In the meantime, be extremely disciplined about stockpiling cash. That will help you with a down payment for a rental, to pay for a car in cash if you need to, or to clear up other debts you might have. “Save money as if you were still paying the mortgage,” says Archer. “If you don’t, then you’ll run out of both time and money, and then you’ll be in a real tough spot.”

4. Know the tax implications. Historically, if you have a debt that’s forgiven, the canceled amount is considered taxable by the IRS. In the wake of the housing bust, though, the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act was drafted to spare you those taxes. That legislation expires at the end of 2012, though – so if it’s not extended, you could potentially face a tax bill for the difference.

5. Talk to a professional. A bankruptcy or real-estate attorney can help you through a very tricky process. The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, for instance, has a searchable database of lawyers at www.nacba.org.

“Strategic default is not an easy decision, and there’s a cost either way,” said Gerri Detweiler, director of consumer education for Credit.com. “Would you rather be $200,000 underwater, or would you rather have seven years of damage to your credit report? It depends whether you’re finally at the point where enough is enough.”

Steve Jobs told Google to stop poaching workers

(Reuters) – Apple’s Steve Jobs directly asked former Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt to stop trying to recruit an Apple engineer, a transgression that threatened one junior Google employee’s job, according to a court filing.

The 2007 email from Jobs to Schmidt was disclosed on Friday in the course of civil litigation against Apple Inc, Google Inc and five other technology companies. The proposed class action, brought by five software engineers, accuses the companies of conspiring to keep employee compensation low by eliminating competition for skilled labor.

In 2010, Google, Apple, Adobe Systems Inc, Intel Corp, Intuit Inc and Walt Disney Co’s Pixar unit agreed to a settlement of a U.S. Justice Department probe that bars them from agreeing to refrain from poaching each other’s employees.

According to an unredacted court filing made public in the civil litigation on Friday, the now-deceased Jobs emailed Schmidt in March 2007 about an attempt by a Google employee to recruit an Apple engineer. Schmidt was also an Apple board member at the time.

“I would be very pleased if your recruiting department would stop doing this,” Jobs wrote.

Schmidt forwarded Job’s email onto other, undisclosed recipients.

“Can you get this stopped and let me know why this is happening?” Schmidt wrote.

Google’s staffing director responded that the employee who contacted the Apple engineer “will be terminated within the hour.”

He added: “Please extend my apologies as appropriate to Steve Jobs.”

Google spokeswoman Niki Fenwick said on Friday the company, “has always actively and aggressively recruited top talent.”

Apple representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The tech defendants have asked a U.S. judge in San Jose, California to quickly dismiss the civil lawsuit, arguing that the companies engaged in bilateral anti-poaching deals to protect collaboration. The companies did not participate in an “overarching conspiracy,” they argued in filings.

But at a court hearing this week, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said the civil lawsuit will proceed, although it may be split up into multiple potential class actions.

Among the revelations stemming from the civil litigation is a 2007 note from Palm’s chief executive to Apple’s Steve Jobs, saying that an anti-poaching agreement would be “likely illegal.

The latest court filing also refers to a 2007 note from Intel chief executive Paul Otellini discussing that company’s agreement with Google.

“Let me clarify. We have nothing signed,” Otellini wrote. “We have a handshake ‘no recruit’ between eric and myself. I would not like this broadly known.”

Intel representative Sumner Lemon said on Friday the company, “disagrees with the allegations contained in the private litigation related to recruiting practices and plans to conduct a vigorous defense.”

The case in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California is In Re: High-Tech Employee Antitrust Litigation, 11-cv-2509.

How do you know if online paid surveys are legitimate or a scam?

It’s probably because you heard about online paid surveys and then discovered the hundreds of sites out there that all claim to be the best way to earn cash money with opinion paid surveys online. Before you sign up with a site, you should first determine whether or not the site is legitimate or not. While the following tips aren’t fool-proof, they’ll give you some ideas of what you should look for in an easy online paid survey site.
First of all, you should always be wary of opinion survey sites that promise lots of money, quick cash, and huge prizes. These all sound great, but they’re usually the warning signs of an online paid survey scam. While legitimate surveys are willing to pay people to take paid online surveys for research purposes, they can’t afford to pay large amounts for a short five minute survey.

Something to keep in mind as well is that certain paid survey sites will offer you points for each survey instead of money. You can then trade these points for merchandise. However, many times the amount of spare time you’d spend taking enough surveys to earn something, you’d be better off just buying it. Companies also generally take at least 48 to 72 hours to get your money to you (depending on what payment method you choose).

Other warning signs are when the site doesn’t clearly state how long a survey will take before you start it or how much the paid survey pays. Legitimate surveys should tell exactly how long the paid surveys that you’re about to take is and how much you will be paid. You can then grab a calculator and figure out how you’d be making per hour and if the extra cash is worth it.

Iraq’s Sunni-backed bloc to end parliament boycott

(Reuters) – Iraq’s Sunni-backed Iraqiya political bloc will end a boycott of the parliament, a spokeswoman said on Sunday, easing the worst political crisis in Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s power-sharing government in a year.

The decision by Iraqiya clears the way for talks among fractious Shi’ite, Kurdish and Sunni blocs, but deep disputes over power-sharing remain unresolved, keeping alive the risk that Iraq could fall back into widespread sectarian violence.

The crisis erupted just days after the last American troops left Iraq in December, when Maliki’s government sought the arrest of Sunni Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi and moved to sideline one of his Sunni deputies who branded Maliki a dictator.

The political blocs are planning a national conference to try to ease the turmoil.

“As a goodwill gesture, Iraqiya announces its return to parliament meetings to create a healthy atmosphere to help the national conference, and to seek guarantees for the conference to succeed and defuse the political crisis,” Iraqiya spokeswoman Maysoon al-Damluji told a news conference.

Damluji’s announcement followed a meeting attended by some of Iraqiya’s top leaders, including parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, Finance Minister Rafie al-Esawi and Saleh al-Mutlaq, the deputy prime minister Maliki had tried to oust.

She said the leaders would meet again later to decide whether Iraqiya ministers would return to cabinet meetings.

Iraqiya’s return to parliament could shore up Maliki’s position for now, but the Sunni-backed bloc is deeply divided over whether to stay in the fragile power-sharing arrangement.

Maliki says his initiative against Hashemi was judicial and not political, but his moves against two key Iraqiya figures have compounded fears among Iraqi Sunnis that he wants to consolidate Shi’ite control and his own power.

Hashemi remains in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region where his immediate arrest is unlikely.

Since the U.S. invasion toppled Saddam Hussein, a Sunni, in 2003, the Shi’ite majority has ascended, leaving Sunni Muslims feeling sidelined from power. Kurdish political blocs have more often reached political deals with Shi’ite parties.

The power-sharing agreement took almost a year to cobble together and has struggled to work when passing key laws such as a national hydrocarbons bill.

Recent political turmoil has been accompanied by a string of attacks on Shi’ite targets that have stirred worries Iraq could slide back in the kind of sectarian slaughter that killed tens of thousands of Iraqis a few years after the invasion.

The Benefits of Coupons: How They Can Save You Money

When it comes down to what every individual has in common, it’s saving money. What makes each of us different is how we go about doing just that. Rewards cards, coupon subscriptions, word of mouth; they’re all effective ways of learning how to find the best deals. However, most people find that using printable coupons are the most effective way to save on exactly what you want.

How do they work?

It’s actually quite easy.  Printable coupons work just like any other coupon. The only difference, you print them off from an online coupon database. The great thing about using the internet to find coupons is that most of the time you can find discounts on exactly what you’re looking for, instead of waiting for a coupon book and hoping to find a deal on what you need.

Benefits of Printable Coupons

All in all, you aren’t just saving money, but time and energy as well. If you know you need something particular from the store, it’s a quick and effortless search that’s totally worth the hassle. And if you’re not one to plan ahead, you don’t even necessarily need a coupon book.

Most printable coupon sites don’t require any sort of registration or subscription fees so you won’t be bombarded with a bunch of junk mail or clutter around the house. Since many businesses pay coupon sites to promote their great offers, they’re often updated and categorized in a simple to understand way.

Because of the popularity of coupons nowadays, many businesses are willing to offer a great deal to ensure customer satisfaction as well as repeat business. Even bigger companies such as name brand Oscar Mayer, Betty Crocker, and Garnier are heavily placing their latest coupons and deals on the internet to coupon sites such as printablecoupons.com. Don’t miss out on instant savings if you don’t have to. It pays to know.

Three killed when Sacramento commuter train hits vehicle

(Reuters) – At least three people, including a toddler, were killed when a light rail train carrying 50 passengers hit a vehicle in Sacramento on Saturday, and investigators were working to determine the cause, police said.

A fourth person from inside the vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition, and eight rail passengers were taken to hospital for medical checks after the crash.

“A vehicle was struck. The vehicle was on the tracks when it was hit,” Watch Commander Lieutenant Steve Winton told Reuters. “Two people died at the scene and two went to the hospital.”

One of those taken to hospital, a toddler whose age was estimated at around two, was later confirmed to have died, a police dispatcher said.

Local television station KCRA reported that witnesses said the vehicle may have tried to drive around safety barriers as the train approached. Police said the train would have been travelling at about 45 to 55 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

What Type of Indoor water Fountain Should I Get for My Home or Office?

Adding indoor water fountains to your home or office area can be a simple, effective way to add to the overall feeling in the room. Using different types of fountains will create a slightly different effect, however. One type may feel soothing while another will be energizing. It is possible to find which type of indoor water fountain is a natural fit for the environment in your space. Here are just a few samples from the huge selection of indoor waterfalls and tabletop fountains available.

Tabletop Indoor fountains

The most versatile type of water fountains because they can go just about anywhere, tabletop fountains come in a variety of styles and sizes. If you need a small one to sit on a receptionist’s desk, for example, you can get that. You can also find larger tabletop fountains which will have more of a presence in the room.

Floor Fountains

This type of fountain is usually larger than a tabletop fountain and has an even more noticeable presence in a room. They are often the most dramatic type of fountain, too. While floor fountains are generally very attractive and soothing, they are also the most expensive type of fountain. They may also require some advanced installation to be hooked up to the building’s plumbing.

Indoor Wall Fountains

Finally, indoor wall fountains are another very popular type of fountain. They may not take up as much room as floor fountains and add a very nice effect to a room. They are also less expensive than floor fountains, either. You can get a wall fountain in nearly every material including pottery glaze, glass, steel, etc.

The actual type of fountain you install will depend on your budget and space. There is a huge selection of indoor water fountains, so if you are interested in one, you can simply check online.

Blues singer Etta James remembered in Los Angeles

(Reuters) – Hundreds of mourners gathered at a Los Angeles-area church on Saturday to remember rhythm-and-blues singer Etta James, saying she overcame great personal and professional hurdles to sing “the times that she lived.”

During a two-hour service that featured performances by pop stars Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera, the Rev. Al Sharpton eulogized James as a woman who rose from a tough childhood and poured her pain into her music.

Aguilera performed a version of “At Last,” James’ show-stopping hit and best-known song.

James died at 73 at a Riverside, California, hospital on January 20 from complications of leukemia, prompting numerous tributes from artists and musicians who were influenced by her work, including Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin.

“People need to understand that when they hear the music Etta James sang, she sang the times that she lived,” Sharpton told friends and family at Greater Bethany Church City of Refuge church in the Los Angeles suburb of Gardena.

“She put our pain and our dreams and our love and our need for one another in her vocal chords, but the difference between her and other artists is somehow you felt she meant what she was saying.”

James, who was born to a teenage single mother, won wide acclaim and three Grammys, but saw numerous ups-and-downs in her career and personal life. She struggled with obesity and heroin addiction, ran a hot-check scheme and had troubled relationships with men.

But, Sharpton said, James should be remembered for blazing a trail for the entertainers who followed her.

“Etta was the one that brought class … generations behind will try but never quite have the strut and swagger and talent of Etta James,” he said.

“At last you (Etta) can get the gratitude of the savior now. Go on home Etta. Get your reward now … you beat them Etta. You won Etta. Get your reward Etta. At last. At last. At last.”

James won her first Grammy in 1995 for her album, “Mystery Lady: The Songs of Billie Holiday.” She also won Grammys in 2003 and 2005, and a lifetime achievement award in 2003 from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which gives out the Grammys.

James is survived by her husband, Artis Mills, two sons Donto and Sametto who played in James’ backing band, and four grandchildren.

Did your car insurance rates recently go up and you are unsure why?

There are many factors that affect your car insurance rate and it is important to know what will affect your monthly cost. Below are ways that are guaranteed to spike your insurance rates and guarantee that you do not save any money.
First, traffic violations. If you have recently received a traffic violation ticket, whether for speeding or another offense, you will most likely see an increase in your car insurance. One ticket may not affect you but once you start accumulating tickets, you become a hazard on the road for most insurance companies.
Second, did you just buy a new and expensive car? The more expensive your car is, the more likely the cost of repair will be higher. Therefore you will file a more expensive claim than someone who is driving a Honda Civic or other comparable car.
Third, did you recently move? Where you live will affect your car insurance rates. For instance, moving to a gated community offers a much higher level of safety than someone living in Queen, New York. While it is not reasonable for everyone to live in a gated community, try to live somewhere with a low crime rate.
Forth, these rules apply to everyone on your insurance policy. If your daughter just got in a car accident where it was her fault, her insurance will skyrocket, and therefore yours will too.
Car insurance can vary for many reasons, it is important that you take into consideration these factors when you think about purchasing car insurance as well. If none of the above situations have occurred it is best that you call your auto insurance company and find out what different factors will influence your insurance rates so you know why your insurance has gone up.

Irishman makes “billion-euro home” of shredded notes

(Reuters) – An unemployed Irish artist has built a home from the shredded remains of 1.4 billion euros ($1.82 billion), a monument to the “madness” he says has been wrought on Ireland by the single currency, from a spectacular construction boom to a wrenching bust.

Frank Buckley built the apartment in the lobby of a Dublin office building that has lain vacant since its completion four years ago at the peak of an ill-fated construction boom, using bricks of shredded euro notes he borrowed from Ireland’s national mint.

“It’s a reflection of the whole madness that gripped us,” Buckley said of what he calls his “billion-euro home.”

“People were pouring billions into buildings now worth nothing,” he said. “I wanted to create something from nothing.”

A wave of cheap credit flowed into Ireland in the early 2000s after Ireland joined the currency zone fuelling a huge property bubble that transformed the country.

The bubble’s collapse since 2007 plunged Ireland into the deepest recession in the industrialized world, forcing the former “Celtic Tiger” to accept a humiliating bailout from the EU and the IMF.

Buckley was given a 100 percent mortgage at the peak of the boom to buy a 365,000 euro home on the far reaches of Dublin’s commuter belt, despite the fact he had no steady income.

He has separated from his wife who lives in the home, which has since lost at least one-third of its value.

Living in his “billion euro home” since the start of December, Buckley is working on adding a kitchen to the living room and hall.

The walls and floor are covered in euro shreddings and the house is so warm Buckley sleeps without a blanket.

Pictures made from notes and coins decorate the walls, including one of a house, made from Irish 5 pence pieces.

“There are houses in Ireland worth less than that,” Buckley quips.

Buckley said he wants Europe’s politicians to solve the eurozone debt crisis without destroying its currency. But if the currency ultimately fails, he will happily use the euro zone’s defunct notes as fodder for future projects.

“Whatever you say about the euro, it’s a great insulator.”

A free FICO score can help you in many ways, including figuring out what your current credit rating is

It’s important to remember that any time you apply for a loan, whether at a bank or online, creditors check your actual credit score to find out if you have a good credit score.

Credit scores and credit reports let lenders know if you will be able to pay the loan back. Since most creditors use the FICO credit score to determine credit scoring, it can be very beneficial to you to know what your FICO credit score is. Once you know have the information that can be found in your credit report, you can see what your actual credit score is and what type of loans and interest rates you are eligible for. Your interest rates are shown as APR, or annual percentage rates. The higher your FICO credit score is, the lower your APR will be.

Using a free FICO score estimator will allow you to find out what APR your credit gives you on different loans in just a few easy steps. Some people may think that having their credit score checked anytime they want to borrow money doesn’t sound very fair, but it actually can help them. If you have a good credit score, creditors can see that quickly by looking at your FICO credit score or using a free FICO score estimator; the more quickly that creditors can see your credit history, the faster you can get a loan.

By looking at your credit report, you are guaranteed that creditors will be looking solely at your credit scores and not be biased based on your age, sex, race, or marital status. This ensures a fairer distribution of credit for everyone.

Bucks trample travel-sick Lakers

(Reuters) – The Milwaukee Bucks, missing key starters, stunned the travel-sick Los Angeles Lakers 100-89 Saturday, helped by a herculean effort from Drew Gooden.

The Bucks (8-11) were without leading rebounder Andrew Bogut, who has a broken ankle, while second top scorer Stephen Jackson sat out the game with suspension.

Gooden filled the void with 23 points – 18 coming in the second half – and eight rebounds, Mike Dunleavy and Ersan Ilyasova scoring 15 points each coming off the bench.

The loss dropped Los Angeles (11-9) to a woeful 1-7 on the road.

Gooden hit a three pointer late in the first quarter to spark a 17-0 Milwaukee run that extended into the second quarter to turn a six-point deficit into an 11-point lead at 34-23.

“I’ve been working on that day-in and day-out, and the best thing I like about it is coach (Scott Skiles) is giving me the confidence to shoot it,” Gooden told reporters.

“I have to thank my coach and my teammates for having the faith in me shooting that three, and it is helping our offense.”

Outside of a brief Lakers surge near the end of the third quarter that trimmed the Bucks lead to three points, Milwaukee maintained a comfortable grip on the lead.

Dunleavy scored 10 points in the first half but went silent in the second half until scoring five points in a 40-second span in the final two minutes of the game.

That spurt helped push the Bucks’ lead back to an insurmountable 11 points.

“As so often happens, they made a little run at us and we had to make some big shots and big plays – and tonight we made them,” said Skiles.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with a near triple double, including 27 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, while the Bucks limited Andrew Bynum to 15 points.

Spaniard Pau Gasol grabbed 15 rebounds but scored just 12 points.

“Before the game, the question was, ‘How are we going to guard Bynum and Gasol?’ And I kept saying they’ve got to guard us also,” said Skiles.

“We put them in as many pick-and-roll situations as possible. We made (Lakers coach) Mike Brown have to switch the coverage numerous times.

“They got a little confused out there on certain occasions and it led to open jump shots or we made a play to the open man.”

Brown lamented his team’s poor play away from home

“I just hope that we don’t need a home crowd to get us juiced, to play the right way,” he said. “We’re not bringing it mentally nor physically when we’re playing on the road.”

For A Banner – The Fewer Words, the Better

Well placed and well made advertisements can mean the difference between a successful event or business and a failure. Advertising and image are crucial to how audiences approach events and companies alike. This is especially true when using visual advertisements such as banners or signs. Here are some tips for creating a positive image through advertising:

- Use a bold image

Audiences are statistically more likely to be drawn to images over words. Placing a strong image on your custom vinyl banners or sign can draw instant attention from passers-by, and strengthen the overall effect of your advertisement.

- Keep it simple

Posters and banners with too much going on in them can overwhelm audiences and cause them to become disinterested very quickly. Choose designs that are appealing and user-friendly at the same time so that your audience doesn’t have any problem finding the point behind your advertisement.

Just as complicated designs can discourage audiences, so can too much information. Keep your phrasing to a minimum and use only the information you need your audience to know. You should also be aware of what type of language you choose. Use words that are appropriate to your event or business, as they will set the tone for what kind of customers you get.

And, lastly, choose a quality printer. Doing your homework before choosing a company to print your banner can make all the difference. Some printers outsource their printing jobs to warehouses around the company, which can mean sloppy products and high prices. In order to ensure that your banner is made well, make sure that your printer uses quality products and has a good reputation. The more you know, the more likely it is that you’ll end up with a product you’re proud of!

Tricks to Improve Your Online reputation

Reputation management online has become an essential part of running a business. By monitoring and influencing what people are saying about your company, you can have a better reputation, increased sales, and more loyal customers. All of these things translate to long-term business success. Here are some tips to help improve your online reputation management.

Use Social Media

Social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook have become powerful ways to improve online reputation. In fact, the proper use of social media is essential to become successful online. By carefully maintaining your business’s social media profiles, you’ll be able to make meaningful connections with your customers, thus improving your online rep.

Content is King

If you spend time to create valuable content your customers love, they are going to start to feel more loyalty to your business. One of the best ways to improve your rep is to have great content other websites want to link to, naturally spreading the good word about your business around the net.

What Goes Online Stays Online

One of the scary things about the internet is its permanence. Once something is posted online on blogs or social media, it stays online—forever. You can delete it from your website, but content is automatically cached by programs that crawl the internet. This means you have to think carefully about what goes online.  Always make sure every Tweet, post, and blog entry is something you want to have online for months to come.

Have Personality

Finally, let your business have a little personality to make it stand out from the crowd. Having personality doesn’t mean your business acts silly or unprofessional. It simply means it has some life to it.

If you want to perform reputation management for your business but don’t have the time, there are actually services available to take care of that for you. Rep management experts will help you to take care of all these things and more to protect your name from negative content.

UK police arrest Murdoch tabloid staff

(Reuters) – Police arrested four current and former staff of Rupert Murdoch’s best-selling Sun tabloid and a policeman on Saturday in a probe into suspected payments by journalists to officers for information, police and the newspaper’s publisher said.

Police also searched the London offices of Sun publisher News International, News Corp’s British arm, in a corruption probe linked to a continuing investigation into phone hacking at its now closed News of the World weekly tabloid.

News Corp’s Management and Standards Committee, set up in the wake of the phone hacking scandal, said Saturday’s operation was the result of information it had passed to police.

“News Corporation made a commitment last summer that unacceptable news gathering practices by individuals in the past would not be repeated,” the committee said in a statement confirming the arrests of four “current and former employees” of the Sun.

Three of the employees, all arrested at their homes, were a 48-year-old man from north London and two men from Essex, east of the capital, aged 48 and 56, police said.

The fourth man, aged 42, was arrested after reporting to an east London police station.

The fifth arrest was a 29-year-old police officer serving with the Met Police’s Territorial Policing Command, who was arrested at the central London police station where he worked.

All five were being questioned on suspicion of corruption.

A Sun reporter, who asked not to be named, said: “Everyone is a bit shocked, there is disbelief really. But there is a big difference between phone hacking and payments to the police.”

The arrests included the Sun’s crime editor Mike Sullivan, its head of news Chris Pharo, and former deputy editor Fergus Shanahan, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters.

Also arrested was the paper’s former managing editor Graham Dudman, now a columnist and media writer, the source said.

Searches at News International’s offices in Wapping, east London, and at the arrested men’s homes, were expected to continue until the afternoon, police said.

The operation takes to 13 the number of arrests in a probe into allegations journalists paid police in return for information, known as Operation Elveden, one of three criminal investigations into the news-gathering practices of the News of the World.

Last week, News International settled a string of legal claims after it admitted that people working for the tabloid had hacked in to the private phones of celebrities and others to generate stories.

The phone hacking scandal drew attention to the level of political influence held by editors and executives at News International, and other newspapers in Britain.

It embarrassed British politicians for their close ties with newspaper executives and also the police, who repeatedly failed to investigate allegations of illegal phone hacking.

Dissatisfied with your local pet supply shop?

Are you dissatisfied with your local pet supply shop and are looking for lower prices when it comes to buying pet food? Do you get bored having the same $20 collar as everyone else but you feel that your pet’s personality is much more exciting than anything the stores have to offer? Online pet supply shops offer greater variety and often, lower prices.

There are many types of online pet supply stores that are looking to help you save money.  There are normal pet supply shops, and even discounted pet supply shops online. If you are looking for pet food that is cheaper than at your local pet shop, a unique collar for your cat, or a variety of different pet supplies, you will find what you are looking for online.

Does your dog need medicine and you know you can find it cheaper than at the vet? Try looking online.  Maybe you think that buying online is all well and good, but the company will charge you a fortune to ship the pet supplies. Online pet stores know they have to compete with your local neighborhood pet shop and usually have discounted shipping rates, or free shipping to help them compete.

The only downside to online pet supply shopping is that you will have to think ahead. You can’t just order food the day your dog runs out of it.  But if thinking ahead can save you that much money, you will probably be more willing to do it.

If you are looking for discounted pet supplies for your dog, cat, or a variety of other pets, try shopping at an online pet supply store. You will save money, have better variety, and feel satisfied at the end of your shopping experience.

Ford hit by commodity costs, international woes

(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co reported a lower-than-expected fourth-quarter profit on Friday as commodity costs shot up and results from operations outside North America fell short of expectations.

The No. 2 U.S. automaker’s losses in Europe nearly quadrupled during the quarter as the economy suffered amid the ongoing debt crisis. Flooding in Thailand led to a loss in Asia, and increased competition blunted profits in South America.

“We saw the external environment deteriorate, and that really affected most regions other than North America,” Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth told reporters, “and then we saw slightly greater than we expected impact of commodities, currency and also the Thai floods.”

Shares of Ford, which derives the bulk of its revenue from North America, fell more than 5 percent in premarket trading.

Excluding one-time items, Ford’s operating profit fell to $1.1 billion, or 20 cents per share, from nearly $1.3 billion, or 30 cents per share, a year earlier.

On that basis, analysts on average were expecting 25 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

“It’s been a tough go for Ford,” said portfolio manager Gary Bradshaw of Hodges Capital Management of Dallas, which owns Ford shares. “It seems like the company continues to execute, but there are plenty of headwinds.”

Besides higher commodity costs, Ford also said it missed expectations because of unfavorable exchange rates.

Profit margins in Ford’s automotive business fell to 5.4 percent in 2011 from 6.1 percent in 2010. Commodity costs for the year came to $2.3 billion, up slightly from the company’s $2.2 billion forecast.

NOT IMMUNE TO EUROPE

Ford’s losses in Europe widened to $190 million in the fourth quarter from $51 million a year earlier. In South America, the company’s pretax operating profit fell to $108 million from $281 million.

Ford posted a quarterly loss of $83 million in Asia, compared with a year-earlier profit of $23 million. The company flagged the loss in Asia earlier this month.

Booth said he expected Ford to be “modestly profitable” in Asia in 2012, but he did not provide a forecast for Europe, where he said rivals have piled on incentives to sell vehicles. Ford expects European growth will be tempered by the debt crisis and austerity measures in 2012.

Compared with Detroit rival General Motors, Ford is less exposed to Europe, Jefferies analyst Peter Nesvold said.

“Ford won’t be immune to a downturn in Europe, but I think the product lineup is a little bit fresher and a little bit better, and it’s a smaller piece of the overall pie,” said Nesvold, who has a “buy” rating on Ford. “Europe is less of an anchor for Ford’s shares than it is potentially for GM’s shares.”

For the fourth quarter, Ford reported net income of $13.6 billion, or $3.40 per share, buoyed by a one-time tax-related gain of $12.4 billion. Net income was $190 million, or 5 cents per share, a year earlier.

The higher net income was the result of an accounting change that Ford said reflects confidence in its long-term profit outlook. The one-time gain resulted in full-year net income of $20.2 billion, the highest since 1998.

What You Need to Know Before Dumpster rental

Using a dumpster rental service is a common part of big projects, both personal and professional. However, it can be tricky to know which waste management dumpster solution is right for your junk removal. Sometimes the lowest dumpster rental cost won’t help you get your job done. Here are some things you need to know before finding affordable dumpster rental for your next job.
Dumpster Placement
The first thing you should look at even before dumpster rental prices is the actual location of your dumpster. If you have a lot of space or can place it on the street, a roll off dumpster may work for you, meaning size won’t be an issue. But if you don’t have a lot of trash and probably don’t need a ton of junk removal, smaller dumpsters may be a better choice.
Size of the Dumpster
The size of the dumpster will depend on the location where it will be placed. If your dumpster is going in a backyard, you probably need to stick to something that is somewhere between 2 cubic meters and 8 cubic meters so the dumpster can be taken in and out of its location. If you have a lot of room and vehicle access, though, a larger dumpster can work, too.
Cost
The actual cost of a dumpster rental will vary by location and size. Don’t hesitate to shop around for the best and most affordable dumpster rental prices. The more time you put into comparing prices, the more you’ll be able to save.
Overall, while it is important that you fine the most affordable dumpster rental possible for your waste management, finding one that meets your needs is more important. It’s always cheaper to go a little bigger than it is to need to rent an additional dumpster.

Potter star looks to life without wands or wizards

(Reuters) – For Daniel Radcliffe, it’s time to forget Harry Potter. The 22-year-old actor, inextricably linked to the boy wizard he played throughout the movie franchise, takes on his first adult role in Victorian-era horror film “The Woman in Black.”

Hitting theatres in Britain on February 10 and a week earlier in the United States, the movie is a step into the unknown for an actor who grew up on the set of one of Hollywood’s most successful series.

Instead of production budgets of $250 million or more, The Woman in Black cost an estimated $17 million to make. And however big Radcliffe’s fan base around the world, another billion-dollar box office looks out of the question.

James Watkins, who directed The Woman In Black, called it a “reinvention” for Radcliffe.

“I think it’s the start of that, absolutely,” Radcliffe told Reuters in an interview ahead of Tuesday’s red carpet world premiere of the new movie.

One of the attractions of playing Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer and father mourning the death of his wife, was the obvious break with what went before.

“People haven’t seen me looking like this before. People haven’t seen me playing a father — all those things are going to help separate it in their mind,” Radcliffe said.

“But I think ultimately the thing that will help that reinvention is the fact that the story is so good. I think people will very quickly forget that they’re watching Harry Potter.”

CREEPY MANSION

In The Woman in Black, Kipps is forced to leave his three-year-old son and travel to a remote village on the east coast of England to look into the legal affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House, a creepy mansion cut off from the mainland when the tide rises.

He discovers a dark family secret that helps explain the appearance of a mysterious, ghost-like woman dressed in black who beckons children to an early grave.

The film is based on a novel by Susan Hill that was adapted into a successful West End play, still running in London.

Jane Goldman, who co-wrote the scripts for “Kick-Ass” and “The Debt,” was brought in to translate the page to the big screen, and horror specialist Watkins directed.

Radcliffe said he did not think too hard about trying to be different from his Harry Potter character when he worked on the set of The Woman in Black and was pleased with the results.

“I think my work in this is certainly on a par with the work I did on the last Potter which I was very, very proud of.”

He will soon discover if critics agree. Throughout the Harry Potter series Radcliffe earned mixed reviews, although any negative comments did nothing to deter record audiences.

And his two main stage roles — “Equus” in 2007 and “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” in 2011 were generally well-received, particularly Equus.

Looking ahead, Radcliffe said proving he was not a one-part wonder would take time.

“It’s a long road. It’s not going to be one film and suddenly you’re off. It’s going to be a combination.”

That combination will involve both stage and screen.

“In an ideal world I would like to mix them as much as possible. In March I’m filming a movie called ‘Kill Your Darlings’ in which I’ll be playing a 19-year-old Allen Ginsberg.

“That’s the next thing on the plate and after that we’ll see.”

How is an Electronic cigarette and a Tobacco Cigarette Different?

Many people who are looking for the best tobacco alternative try using electronic cigarettes and purchase an electronic cigarette starter kit. While these digital versions appear to be different from tobacco, and though some people actually claim they are safer, what are the real differences between tobacco smoking and using an electronic cigarette?

Contents

The first difference people notice when they actually try to smoke an electric cigarette is that the e-cig is composed of mainly vapor instead of actual smoke. Electronic cigarettes work by vaporizing a small amount of liquid contained in the cigarette. This liquid usually only contains four primary chemicals: nicotine, vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, and flavoring elements. This is very different to tobacco cigarettes which often contain more than 4,000 chemicals.

The smokeless electronic cigarette also allows you to select which flavors you want to smoke, which can include vanilla, chocolate, menthol, and more. Finally, users can choose how much nicotine they want in their electronic cigarette by choosing the type of liquid they want to use in it.

How it Works

Traditional cigarettes are used by lighting one tip of them on fire and by inhaling smoke through the other end. An electronic cigarette vaporizes liquid inside of the cigarette, making them a smokeless alternative to tobacco.

Side Effects

The side effects of tobacco smoking have been highly publicized. These include yellow teeth, stains on the fingers, and a variety of cancers. While electronic cigarettes haven’t been fully studied yet, some groups claim they do not contain carcinogens or cause second-hand smoke. Additionally, they won’t yellow the teeth or hands.

Cost

The price for electronic cigarette starter kits is about the cost of three packs of regular cigarettes. However, after the initial start-up is paid, it is less expensive to use electronic than to use tobacco.

If you are interested in trying an electronic cigarette, it’s easy. You simply need to purchase a starter kit. You can check online to compare starter kits to see which e-cig would be the best type for you.

Hollywood Golden Age a hot look at Golden Globes

(Reuters) – Timeless elegance, fitted bodices and mermaid trains ruled the Golden Globes’ red carpet on Sunday as A-list celebrities channeled old-style Hollywood glamour.

Angelina Jolie looked like Grace Kelly in her white-satin Atelier Versace gown with a twist of Marlene Dietrich thanks to a red fold over collar, matching red lips and red clutch. “Modern Family” actress Sofia Vergara seemed Jayne Mansfield-esque in her strapless teal Vera Wang gown, ruffled train and Harry Winston jewels.

Charlize Theron could have passed for Lana Turner back in her heyday in Dior Couture with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit dress, while Evan Rachel Wood was a modern-day Joan Crawford in her sparkling green Gucci Premiere gown, also with a plunging neckline.

“It’s old Hollywood glamour. We’ve never seen this many 40s-style fit and flare dresses,” said style expert and TV host Sam Saboura. “It’s all about the mermaid shape, the hour-glass shape.”

Saboura cited Jolie, Theron, Wood, Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, Kate Beckinsale, Rooney Mara, Salma Hayek, Elle McPherson and Debra Messing as just a handful of actresses who opted for some sort of “fit and flare” dress, many with embellished fishtails of ruffles, tules or feathers.

“So many women wore pink! ” said designer Rachel Pally, referring to the likes of Theron, McPherson, Mary J. Blige, Octavia Spencer, Natalie Portman, Sarah Paulson and Heidi Klum.

“Pink is a tricky color to pull off because it can often come across as too cute or too young. But it was great to see different shades of pink, like soft blushes and pastels. They were pretty without being too sweet,” Pally said.

PASTEL TO PURPLE

Saboura said pastels will be big in fashion this coming spring, as seen in the soft pinks and lavenders, but he noted that many fashion-forward stars were already skipping to fall 2012 on the red carpet, choosing to wear dark, rich colors.

Vergara, Freida Pinto, French actress Berenice Bejo, Tilda Swinton, Helen Mirren and Madeleine Stowe opted for dark blues or peacock tones. Burgundys and rich purples were favored by Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Juliana Margulies, Emma Stone and Tina Fey, while greens were seen on Melissa McCarthy, Laura Dern and Kelly Macdonald.

“Headbands were also a trend, whether you like them or not,” observed Saboura of the accessory worn by Theron and Williams. “With films like ‘The Artist’ and the forthcoming ‘The Great Gatsby,’ this is just the beginning of this type of ’20s style that we’re going to see.”

But the consensus among experts seemed to be that Jolie’s red fold over collar and matching red lips and clutch purse was among the most stunning looks of the night.

“She looked amazing,” said celebrity designer Bruno Schiavi. “The top of the dress was very structured — I bet it had some corsetry inside — with a small train at the bottom that was not too over done. She wanted people to look at that red accent with the color red being daring, dangerous and sexy. She was very much ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,’ but not too overdone because she’s still a mum.”
